AJC offers the most comprehensive local news resource while saving readers time and money

ATLANTA (Oct. 20, 2009) The Atlanta Journal-Constitution launched a holiday consumer campaign highlighting the value that it provides consumers. The campaign, which runs during the peak holiday shopping season, is designed to further market two strengths of the AJC: shopping resource and watchdog journalism - both with a local emphasis.

Consumers look to the AJC for advertising information. In fact, 45% of metro Atlanta adults cite the AJC as their most trusted shopping resource. The "Unplug & Save" multi-media campaign employs targeted as well as mass channels such as TV, radio, print and online, and underscores the relationship between newspaper advertisers and buyers. In addition to media placement, the AJC will focus on event partnership opportunities and point-of-purchase and single copy initiatives to increase the purchase of the newspaper. Commercials will also run during Clark Howard's program on WSB-AM to reach the savings-minded consumer and encourage shoppers to use the AJC to save money.

"We're confident that our advertising message will resonate with consumers who are looking for ways to save time and money, while staying informed this holiday season," said Amy Chown, AJC vice president of marketing. "This campaign is a positive way to promote the value of our brand and was designed to build readership and grow circulation sales."

While TV reinforces the value of using the AJC to save time and money, radio will also focus on promoting upcoming content, particularly Sunday watchdog coverage and local news.

Chown concluded, "This campaign highlights how the Sunday AJC saves readers time and money, and focuses on the Sunday reading experience when readers can relax and learn."

The Unplug campaign theme was launched earlier this year with the new, redesigned ajcSunday. The campaign was developed based on extensive research with consumers who describe the experience and ritual of reading the Sunday newspaper as a way to escape from the always-plugged-in-hectic pace of the week. The current campaign continues through Nov. 29. To learn more about the AJC campaign, you can visit ajc.com/unplugcampaign.

AJC Media Solutions and Georgia Power Demonstrate Benefits of Digital Advertising on ajc.com (8/18/09)

Collaboration leverages audience reach of multi-media company for electric utility

Today, AJC Media Solutions and Georgia Power are demonstrating the benefits the multi-media company can provide advertisers online, including strength of audience reach and extensive knowledge of the local market.

The collaboration gives Georgia Power premium positions on ajc.com throughout today and future dates to raise awareness for its ENERGY STAR® for Homes program. This program targets new home buyers by educating them about the benefits of owning an energy efficient home and connecting them to ENERGY STAR home builders.

"We want to share information about the ENERGY STAR Home program with as many consumers as possible," said Tony Donald, Georgia Power's ENERGY STAR for Homes program manager. "Research indicates today's home buyers use online resources like ajc.com to make decisions about their home purchases."

The program's messages are taking over the majority of the advertising units on ajc.com's home page for the day. These units include a sliding billboard, display ads and a wallpaper, which is a brand new advertising method of that wraps around the daily content. By utilizing these ad units, advertisers can potentially reach more than 200,000 different users and display more than 2.5 million ads to consumers.

"Collaborating with Georgia Power allows the AJC to demonstrate the power of our digital capabilities," said Charlie Chance, AJC director of digital advertising. "This campaign leverages our dominant position in the Atlanta market and how we can effectively connect advertisers to the audience that is most responsive to their messaging."

Launched earlier this year, AJC Media Solutions provides consultative services to advertisers that help their business reach, target and optimize their advertising plan in the most cost-effective way. The AJC launches marketing campaign highlighting competitive strength in marketplace

ATLANTA (June 5, 2009) – This week, AJC Media Solutions launched a marketing campaign, affirming the No. 1 audience position in the Atlanta market for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ajc.comajc.com.

The campaign is based on audience data recently released by Scarborough. A national research firm, Scarborough Research is considered the leading resource in local market information. The campaign recently launched to coincide with season finales of some of the most popular television shows.

The first wave of the campaign will be focused in print, and over the next six weeks, digital, direct mail and e-mail marketing campaign components will launch. The second phase of the campaign will target key categories of business and focus on the shopping data from Scarborough. This research reinforces consumers' preference for the AJC as a destination for product information and savings, and the AJC's ability to effectively target and reach consumers.

The campaign uses visual comparisons to emphasize the audience reach of the AJC and ajc.com relative to other competitive media outlets, such as local TV, radio, Web sites and top-rated prime time television shows. The campaign highlights the following facts:

  • ajcSunday reaches more than twice as many Atlantans as the top-rated television show, American Idol.
  • ajc.comajc.com delivers a larger audience than any other local media Web site. In fact, almost twice as much as its closest competitor.
  • More Atlanta consumers are prompted to make a purchase after seeing an ad in the newspaper than any other local source.

Audience data reflected in the campaign also illustrates how ajcSunday delivers one of the largest audiences in Atlanta, by drawing relative comparisons between the AJC's reach and popular Atlanta venues. For example, one ad illustrates how each week ajcSunday readers could fill Turner Field 30 times over.

"As a full-featured media solutions provider, the campaign will center around all three of the distinct platforms the AJC offers - print, digital and direct mail." said Vice President of Marketing, Amy Chown. "This campaign tells the story of our reach and dominant position in the marketplace as the leading advertising source," Chown added. "We have a bold, positive and confident story to share, not only with our advertisers, but with our readers. It's important for both to understand our strength in the market."

The campaign was conceived and developed by the AJC's marketing team.

Launched earlier this year, AJC Media Solutions was created to deliver the AJC's advertising and marketing capabilities to advertisers. To learn more about advertising opportunities with AJC Media Solutions and view the ads, you can visit YourAudienceDelivered.com/services/reach-atlanta.html.

Partnership with Yahoo! allows the AJC to provide advertising opportunities that generate results

ATLANTA (June 18, 2009) - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), Atlanta's premier provider of digital, print and direct marketing solutions, today disclosed it is one of the most successful partners in the Yahoo! Newspaper Consortium.

With a dynamic portfolio of products, the AJC is Atlanta's most trusted source for comprehensive coverage of local news, information and advertising. The AJC through AJC Media Solutions, offers advertising solutions and consultative services to businesses to help them reach, target and optimize their advertising plan in a cost-effective manner.

Partnering with Yahoo! allows ajc.com to target nearly 70 percent of the online audience in the 54-county Atlanta Designated Market Area (DMA). Advertisers can select from thousands of geographic, demographic and behavioral targeting combinations to reach their desired audience. Yahoo! and ajc.com together reaches 3.2 million local users every month, with more than 1.2 billion total page views monthly, according to Nielsen research data.

"Through ajc.com's partnership with Yahoo!, we have the product breadth and depth in our advertising portfolio that no one else in Atlanta can offer," said Charlie Chance, AJC director of digital and recruitment platforms. "Using the Yahoo! technology combined with the strength and knowledge of our own marketplace delivers big benefits for advertisers."

Yahoo!'s partners include 43 media companies, and more than 814 newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle and St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
